Let’s be honest, springtime in Lancashire isn’t always blue skies and blossom. It might be a bit breezy, there may be a rogue shower, you almost definitely need a second layer. But that’s never stopped us from heading out for a picnic, and it shouldn’t stop you either.
Let’s Start With the Savoury
Pies – Obviously! Our pies are made fresh every day at our Chorley bakery, with proper pastry. Chunky steak, minced beef and onion, cheese and potato, potato and butter – there’s something for everyone.
Sandwiches – We make our own proper bread (no additives and no preservatives), and our sandwiches are made fresh to order. Choose from ham, beef, turkey, tuna mayo, BLT, egg mayo – or go for something a bit different like chicken tikka or piri-piri chicken.
Sausage rolls – Always a family favourite, and ideal for eating on the go. Enough said.
Something Sweet
Here’s the fun bit…
For the kids, a gingerbread man is always a winner – easy to eat, no mess, no complaints. Brownies, rocky road, and caramel shortbread are popular with pretty much everyone and travel well in a bag without turning into a disaster.
If you fancy something a bit more traditional, our Manchester tart and custard slice are two of our best sellers – proper Lancashire bakes that go down well with the whole family. And for when you’re feeling a bit fancier, a chocolate éclair or coffee renoir is a lovely treat when you’re sat somewhere nice with a bit of peace and quiet.
Where to Pick It All Up
At Haigh Woodland Park, you can order everything fresh at our café, then head straight out onto the trails.
At Whittle-le-Woods on the A6 in Chorley, we’re open Monday to Saturday and offer a full takeaway menu. Ring ahead on 01257 826215 if you want to save a bit of time.
You can also pre-order online for collection – handy if you want to be organised for a weekend outing. Orders can be placed Monday to Friday for collection Wednesday to Saturday (before 3pm the day before for next-day collection).
Pop in, fill your picnic basket, and get outside. The fresh air will do you good – and so will the pies.
